Create a tournament and fill in its details
Set up a tournament with a banner, grounds, category, sport basics, organiser contact and rules, and edit or delete it later.
On this page
Teams and parents always ask the same things: where are the grounds, who do we call, what are the rules, what ball are we using? The tournament form lets you answer all of that once, on the tournament page, so it doesn't have to go round on a WhatsApp poster. Everything except the name, dates and sports is optional, so you can start small and add details later.
Before you start
- You need a SportnNote account.
- If the tournament is run by your school or club, set up that organisation first so you can pick it as the host.
Step by step
- Go to the Organize tab and tap ๐ New tournament.
- Optional: tap ๏ผ Add banner for a wide banner across the top, and Add logo for the round logo. See Add a player photo, team logo or tournament banner.
- Type the Name, for example "Annual Sports Meet 2026".
- Fill in the City. If your school or club has a city set, it's filled in for you.
- Under Grounds (optional), type a ground, such as "Main Ground", and tap Add. Add as many as you need, and tap a ground's โ to remove it. These grounds come first in the venue choices when you schedule matches.
- Under Category (optional), pick ๐ซ School, ๐ College, ๐ University, ๐ข Corporate, ๐ Community, ๐ Open or Other. Tap it again to clear it.
- Under Host, choose ๐ Myself or your organisation.
- Under Contested by, choose who plays: ๐ณ๏ธ Open teams, ๐ Inter-house, ๐ซ School team or ๐ค Individuals.
- Set the Start date and End date.
- Under Sports, tap every sport in the meet.
- For each sport, a short "basics" block appears, for example overs and ball type for cricket. Fill in what you know. Set up each sport has a button for each sport's full settings if you need more.
- Under Organiser contact, check the Phone (it starts with your own number) and add an Email (optional). Clear the phone to keep it off the page.
- In About & rules, write the prizes, entry fee, eligibility and rules. You can use up to 4,000 characters.
- Choose the Registration type: ๐ Open โ teams can find & request to join, or ๐ Invite only.
- Tap Create tournament.
You land on the tournament's Manage tab with a short checklist: add teams, choose the format, and schedule matches. See The tournament admin hub.
What visitors see
On the tournament's Info tab, everyone sees:
- the city and the grounds. Tapping a ground opens it in maps.
- the category
- a one-line summary of each sport's basics, such as "T20 ยท Leather ยท Turf" for cricket
- an About & rules card
- a Contact organiser card with ๐ Call and ๐ฌ WhatsApp buttons, plus โ๏ธ Email if you added one
Step by step: edit the details later
- Open the tournament and tap โ Manage at the top right.
- Tap Edit details.
- Change anything. A new banner or logo saves as soon as it uploads.
- Tap Save changes.
Step by step: delete a tournament
Use this for a test tournament, or one that won't happen.
- Tap โ Manage โ Edit details.
- At the bottom left, tap Delete tournament.
- The message tells you how many upcoming matches will be cancelled. Tap Delete to confirm.
The tournament disappears from lists and search. Results of matches already played stay on players' profiles.
Common questions
Who can edit or delete the tournament?
Its hosts. You can add co-hosts on the Info tab or while creating it.
Can I leave the grounds empty?
Yes. You can still type a venue for each match when you schedule it.
What's the difference between the "basics" and the full sport settings?
Basics are the few settings most organisers need, such as overs or match length. The full settings include the points system, tie-breakers and format (league, groups or knockout).
