In a T20, nobody may bowl more than 4 overs, and nobody may bowl two overs in a row. When a bowler limps off mid-over, someone else finishes the over, and the Laws say neither of them may bowl the next one. The app keeps track of all of this for you. Each bowler's name shows how many overs they've bowled, and anyone who can't bowl right now is greyed out with the reason.

Before you start

  • You can score the match (a listed scorer, or a host of the match or its tournament), on the Scoring tab.
  • To set your own overs-per-bowler limit, you need to be able to edit the match format. You can only do this before the match goes live.

The overs-per-bowler limit

By default the limit is automatic: the match's overs divided by 5, rounded up.

  • T20: 4 overs each. ODI (50 overs): 10. T10: 2.
  • A 5-over box cricket match: 1 over each.
  • Test or timeless matches: no limit.
  • If the match length changes because of rain or an agreed change, an automatic limit is worked out again for the new length.

A part-over counts as a full over towards the limit. So a bowler who bowled 2 balls of an over before getting hurt has used one of their overs.

Step by step: set your own limit

  1. For an existing match that hasn't started, go to the Info tab and tap ✏️ Edit date, venue & format. When you create a match, use the format section instead.
  2. If you picked a format such as T20, tap ⚙ Customize this format to see all the options.
  3. Find Max overs per bowler and type the limit, for example 2 for a box cricket match where everyone may bowl twice. Type 0 to go back to the automatic limit.
  4. Tap Save changes, or finish creating the match.

Picking the bowler for each over

At the start of each over the scoring screen says, for example, "Over 5 of 20 — pick Blue House bowler". Tap a name. Each name shows overs bowled against the limit, for example "Kabir · 3/4".

A greyed-out name tells you why that bowler can't bowl:

  • · last over: they bowled the previous over, or any part of it.
  • · quota done: they've used all their overs.
  • · suspended: an umpire suspended them earlier in this innings.
  • · this over: they already bowled part of this over.
  • ⚡: they were replaced by an Impact Player or concussion substitute. A line under the names explains it: "⚡ = replaced by an Impact Player or concussion sub — can't bowl." Batters show the same mark.

Step by step: a bowler is injured mid-over

Once the first ball of an over is bowled, the bowler is locked in, so a mis-tap can't change bowlers halfway through.

  1. Tap 🚑 Replace bowler mid-over under the bowler names.
  2. The panel says, for example, "Replace Kabir at 4.2 — balls so far stay with them".
  3. Tap the reason: Injured, Suspended or Other.
  4. Under "Who finishes the over?", tap the new bowler.

The balls already bowled stay in the first bowler's figures, and the rest of the over goes to the new bowler. Both of them sit out the next over, as the Laws require. If you chose Suspended, the first bowler can't bowl again in this innings.

When everyone has bowled their quota

In small matches it can happen that every bowler has used up their overs. You'll see "Everyone has bowled their quota" with an Allow anyway button. Tap it, then pick the bowler the umpires agreed on.

Common questions

Why can't I pick the bowler who finished the last over?

No bowler may bowl two overs in a row. After a mid-over change, this applies to both the bowler who started that over and the one who finished it.

Can I change the limit after the match has started?

No. The format is locked once the match is live. If the overs change, an automatic limit is worked out again for you. See Rain, fewer overs and DLS targets.

Does the Super Over have a limit?

Yes. It's one over, so one bowler bowls it.
