Add penalty, bonus and minus runs, and fielding notes
Give 5 penalty runs to either side with a reason, add bonus or minus runs for local rules, and note dropped catches and runs saved or missed.

Sometimes runs change hands without a ball being hit. The ball hits a fielder's helmet left on the ground, a batter runs on the pitch, or your inter-house league gives 2 bonus runs for hitting the net. Coaches also want to know who dropped a catch. Three buttons on the Scoring tab cover these: ⚖️ Penalty, ± Runs and 🧤 Fielding. Each one shows a preview of the new score before you apply it.
Before you start
- You can score the match (a listed scorer, or a host of the match or its tournament), on the Scoring tab.
- The three buttons are in the row under WICKET, Wide and No ball.
Step by step: penalty runs
- Tap ⚖️ Penalty.
- Under "Who is penalised?", tap the team that broke the rule: the batting side or the fielding side.
- The runs are set to 5. Type another number if your rules say so.
- Tap a reason. The list depends on which side is penalised, for example Ball hit helmet or Illegal fielding for the fielding side, and Short run or Damaging pitch for the batting side. Tap Other to type your own. The reason is optional.
- Check the preview, for example "Red House will be 87 (82+5)".
- Tap Apply.
Penalty runs go to the other team as extras. They don't count as a ball and aren't charged to any bowler or batter. They show as "pen" in the extras, and in the timeline, for example "5 penalty runs to Red House — Ball hit helmet".
If the batting side is penalised, the runs go to the fielding side's own innings. In the second innings that is the team that batted first, so the target goes up by the same amount, and the preview says "target becomes …".
Step by step: bonus or minus runs
Use this for local rules, such as +2 for hitting the net or −5 for every dismissal in box cricket.
- Tap ± Runs. The panel is titled "± Bonus / minus runs".
- Tap ➕ Bonus or ➖ Minus.
- Tap the team. It can be the batting or the bowling side.
- Tap 1 to 5, or type another number under "Other runs".
- Add a reason if you like, for example "hit the net".
- Check the preview and tap Apply.
Bonus and minus runs are not extras. They show on their own line under the total, for example "Bonus/deductions +2, −5 (hit the net)". A total can go below zero. A bonus to the team batting first raises the chase target, and a bonus can win a chase.
Step by step: dropped catches and runs saved
Fielding notes never change the score. They're for coaches and for each player's profile.
- Straight after the ball, tap 🧤 Fielding. The panel shows which ball the note is for, for example "For ball 4.3 — Ravi facing Kabir".
- Tap Dropped catch, Runs saved or Runs missed.
- For runs saved or missed, tap 1 to 6. For a drop, you can add how many runs it cost.
- Tap the fielder. The keeper is listed first, marked †.
- Tap Save.
The scorecard shows a line such as "Fielding: Ravi 1 drop · Asha 6 saved". The player's profile counts Drops, Runs saved and Runs missed. The runs a drop cost are shown in the match, but they don't count towards any stat.
Common questions
I added a penalty to the wrong team. How do I fix it?
Tap ↶ Undo straight away. Penalties, bonus runs and fielding notes are entries like any ball, so Undo removes them. ✎ Edit a past ball can't change them.
Can I add a fielding note after the match?
No. Notes can only be added while the match is live.
Do Super Over notes count?
They show in the match, but Super Over figures don't count in careers. See Read the scorecard and career stats.
