Assign scorers and match officials
Build a tournament scorer pool, share out fixtures in one go, let a scorer pick up a match with one tap, and record umpires and referees.
On this page
On a busy meet day you might have twelve matches on four grounds and six volunteer scorers. Instead of adding a scorer to each match one by one, add your scorers to the tournament once, then share out the fixtures in a single step. Any tournament scorer can also pick up an unassigned match themselves. Umpires and referees can be recorded on each match for the public record.
Before you start
- To manage the scorer pool and assign fixtures, you must be a host of the tournament.
- Scorers need to be on SportnNote to score. You can add someone by mobile number, and they'll get an invite to join.
Step by step: build the tournament's scorer pool
- Open the tournament → ⚙ Manage.
- Under People, tap Scorers & officials. The panel opens right there.
- Under Scorers, tap a suggested name to add them. Suggestions come from your organisation's scorers, or from the tournament's hosts.
- To add someone else, search by mobile number or name and pick them, or invite them by number.
- Do the same under Referees for umpires and referees you'll use often.
To take someone out of the pool, tap Remove next to their name.
Step by step: share out the fixtures
- In the same panel, tap 🎯 Assign scorers to fixtures. The button shows how many matches have no scorer yet.
- Choose how to share them out. Share out evenly gives each scorer a fair share, in turn. By ground lets you pick one scorer for each ground, and only shows when matches have venues. One scorer for all gives every match to one person.
- Leave Only matches without a scorer ticked to keep existing assignments. Untick it to reassign everything that hasn't finished.
- Check the list. Matches are grouped by day, and each shows its scorer. Tap a scorer's name on a match to switch it to the next person.
- Tap Assign. The button shows how many matches will be assigned.
You'll see how many were assigned. If any failed (for example on a poor connection), tap (retry).
Step by step: pick up a match yourself (tournament scorers)
If you're in the tournament's scorer pool but not on a particular match:
- Open the match → Info tab.
- In the Match scorers card, tap 🎯 Score this match.
You're added as a scorer and can start scoring. Only one phone scores at a time. See Only one phone scores at a time.
Step by step: add a scorer to one match
- Open the match → Info tab → Match scorers.
- Tap + Add scorer.
- Pick from Tournament scorers (listed first), choose yourself, or add anyone by mobile number or name.
Hosts don't need to add themselves. A host of the match or its tournament can score it straight away from the Scoring tab, and is added to Match scorers when they start. On a match with no scorer yet, a host also sees ▶ Score this match at the top, which opens the scoring buttons.
Step by step: record match officials
- Open the match → Info tab → Match officials.
- Each sport shows its own roles. Cricket has Umpire 1, Umpire 2, Third umpire and Match referee. Football has Referee, two assistant referees and a Fourth official. Every sport also has a Commentator.
- Tap + Add next to a role.
- Tap a tournament referee, search for a person, or type just a name (for example "Mr Rao, PE teacher") and tap Save.
The officials then show on the match's Summary tab for everyone.
Common questions
The Assign scorers screen says "Add scorers first". Why?
The tournament's scorer pool is empty. Add scorers under ⚙ Manage → Scorers & officials, then come back.
Can one match have two scorers?
Yes. Several people can be allowed to score a match, but only one scores at a time. The others can watch, and any of them can take over if needed.
Do assigned scorers get told?
Yes. After Assign, each scorer gets one "Scoring duty" alert saying how many matches they're scoring in the tournament. Alerts need notifications turned on for SportnNote on their phone.
Is the "Change scorer" option during a match the same thing?
Yes. ☰ Quick options → Change scorer takes you to the Info tab, where the scorers and officials are.
