Rain, bad light, a team walking off or a slot running out can stop a school-meet match. When that happens, the scorer needs to close the match honestly and say why. SportnNote lets you end a match by hand with a result and a reason. The reason is shown to everyone, and the points table updates the right way.

Before you start

  • To end a match that has started, you must be one of its scorers, or a host of the match or its tournament. Hosts can do this without adding themselves as a scorer first. The button is on the Scoring tab.
  • To record a walkover, you must be a host of the match or the tournament.
  • Every result needs a reason of at least a few letters. It's the public record of what happened.

Step by step: end a match that has started

  1. Open the match β†’ Scoring tab.
  2. Tap 🏁 End match… below the scoring buttons.
  3. Under "How did it end?", pick Awarded, Conceded, Draw (Tie in cricket), No result or Abandoned. Hosts also see 🏳 Walkover. The list below explains each one.
  4. For Awarded, tap the team under "Awarded to?". For Conceded, tap the team that wins.
  5. Type a reason, or tap a quick reason: Rain, Bad light, Ground unfit, Time up, Injury or Team left.
  6. Read the preview line. In a tournament, it shows the result and what the points table will do, for example "Points table: both teams +1 (no result)".
  7. Tap End match.

The match is marked finished. A banner with the result and the reason, such as "No result β€” Rain", shows on the match page, on the match card and in shared links.

The choices mean:

  • Awarded: one side is awarded the match, for example because they were clearly ahead when play had to stop. The result reads "Red House awarded the match β€” Rain".
  • Conceded: one side gave up or walked off. The other side wins.
  • Draw or Tie: both sides finish level.
  • No result: play started but the match couldn't produce a result.
  • Abandoned: the match was called off part-way and won't count as a normal game.
  • 🏳 Walkover (hosts only): a team didn't turn up or can't play. See "Record a walkover" below.

Cricket: net run rate

In cricket, Awarded, Conceded or Tie shows an extra chip, Count in NRR (all overs). It's on by default, so both teams are charged their full overs for net run rate. Turn it off if your tournament rules say a shortened match shouldn't affect NRR. The points are still awarded either way. For overs cut by rain, see Rain, fewer overs and DLS targets.

What it does to the points table

  • Awarded, Conceded or a walkover: the winner gets the normal win points.
  • Draw or Tie: both teams get the draw points.
  • No result or Abandoned: the match counts as played for both teams, and each gets the "no result" points. In cricket that's 1 point each by default. In other sports it's 0, because those matches are usually replayed. Goals, runs and run rate from the match don't count.
  • The table shows an NR column once any team has a no result.

Organisers can change the "no result" points for a sport under βš™ Manage β†’ the sport's format & points row β†’ No result. See Points table and adjustments.

Step by step: record a walkover

Use this when a team doesn't turn up or can't play.

  1. Open the match β†’ Scoring tab and tap 🏁 End match….
  2. Tap 🏳 Walkover.
  3. Under "Who takes the walkover win?", tap the team that turned up.

Before the match has started, you can also do it from the Info tab: in the Match scorers card, tap 🏳 Award a walkover, then tap the team.

The match is marked finished with the other side conceded, and the card shows W/O instead of a score. The winner gets the normal win points.

Common questions

I ended the match by mistake. Can I undo it?

Not with β†Ά Undo. A host can reset a tournament fixture to not started, or delete a friendly, from the Danger zone on the Info tab. This is only open for 30 minutes after the last scoring tap. See Match quick options. To fix a wrongly scored goal or point after the end, see Correct a finished match.

Why is the End match button greyed out?

Pick how the match ended, pick a winner if needed, and type a reason. The button turns on when all three are done.

What's the difference between No result and Abandoned?

They count the same in the table. Use No result when play happened but couldn't finish with a result. Use Abandoned when the match was called off. The words show on the public result.

Does a player's stats from the match still count?

Yes. Goals, runs and wickets already scored stay on players' profiles.
